Police officers catching more DUI’s keep communities safer. Saliva drug testing makes processing DUI’s faster – allowing officers to get on the street faster.
EZ Saliva II Instructions
Driving under the influence suspects should not have toothpaste, food, tobacco, drink, gum, or anything in their mouth for at least 15 minutes prior to giving saliva sample. Please do not bite, suck, or chew on testing sponges. Follow these instructions for best results.
- The purpose of Step 1 is to saturate the collection swab sponges with saliva. Donor should sweep/rub the inside of mouth(cheek, gums, tongue) with swab sponges several times, then hold swabs in mouth until a distinct red color change appears on the saturation indicator strips. Donor must leave swabs in mouth until instructed to remove them or until the color change occurs.
- Remove collection swabs from mouth and insert sponges-first into screening device. Push in a steady (not rushed) manner until the swab top cap locks into place. Once locked in place, the device is airtight, tamper evident and ready to dispose of after use or send to lab for testing of confirmation vial contents. Ensure that specimen is contacting all test strips. If not slightly tilt the device to side to side/front to back to disperse the specimens within the chamber.
- Read negative results as soon as two lines appear on any test strip, often within 2 minutes. Any indication of a line in the test region (T) should be considered a line, and therefore a negative result. Read presumptive positive results at 10 minutes. The confirmation vial is available for analytical confirmation testing.
If the device includes alcohol, read the alcohol strip at 2 minutes. Compare the color of the reaction pad with the color chart provided to determine the relative blood alcohol level. No color change indicates a negative result. The marijuana trip has improved sensitivity, which may show a less intense color band in the test region (T). This is an expected and normal response.
The EZ Saliva II Difference
Some police departments are using a saliva drug test, but EZ Saliva II is the only split sample saliva test on the market. The other tests only have a rapid portion. The rapid portion of the saliva test gives officers a fast answer to whether or not a suspect is under the influence of illicit drugs. While still necessary, by only having the rapid portion-other forms of testing are still necessary (blood, urine). Taking blood and urine samples are a major part of why DUI Arrests take too much time. Having a rapid test and a PCR test result from a lab is unique and can change policing around driving under the influence arrests. Lab results are 99% accurate and show the levels of intoxication for the specified illicit drugs. Catching more DUI’s can drastically change the safety of communities.
